My grandmother’s laundry bag

I often went to visit my grandfather when I was a child. He always had time for me. And he had a wonderful chest of drawers. In it I could find photos, textiles, old treasures – and my grandmother’s laundry bag. Could you really put dirty laundry in this beautiful bag?

Now I know that this bag is from the art deco time, handembroidered with ornaments and flowers on rough linen, perhaps at first a sack for sugar. In that time you could reuse a lot of things.

I also know that this bag was used for women’s intimate, often washed laundry, and that big sheet, towels and other big textiles were in the closet waiting for spring and autumn laundry. No wonder the households had a lot of sheet, pillow-cases and so on.
